Innocence of Muslims Movie Creator Misled Entire Cast And Crew

Innocence of Muslims

Various news sources report the Innocence of Muslims movie creator misled entire cast and crew into thinking the production was a historical film. The movie which has created uproar in the Islamic world has so far cost the lives of an American Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and 3 other American consulate officials.

“Innocence of Muslims” depicts an insulting portrayal of Muslims’ prophet Muhammad. The movie negatively portrays the prophet Muhammad as a sex-obsessed individual who engages in relations with young people and commits acts of sadistic violence. Clips of the movie have gone viral on Google’s video sharing website, YouTube. Google has rejected White House’s requests to remove the movie from YouTube, but amid the recent events Google has restricted access to the movie from Islamic countries.

According to Huffington post, the “Innocence of Muslims” director, Nakoula Bassely Nakoula, duped the 80 cast and crew members of the film. The 55-year-old Nakoula who is a former soft-core porn director, made the cast and the crew believe that the movie was a historical film.

According to The Wrap the permit for the movie production was obtained under the title “Desert Warriors.” “Innocence of Muslims” was filmed in 2011 in Los Angeles County. Huffington post also reports that the movie was filmed on a Hollywood set that was originally made for episodes of “JAG.” Other portions of the movie were filmed on an area of Blue Cloud Film ranch called “Baghdad Square,” which was used in such movies as “The Iron Man”, “CSI”, and “Arrested Development.”

According to San Gabriel Valley Tribune, “Innocence of Muslims'” production permit was linked to a Christian Charity non-profit group called the Media for Christ. But according to L.A. Times, the organization has denied any connection to the production of the movie. Joseph Nassralla, who is the presiding of the California-based Media for Christ, has reportedly devoted himself to criticizing Islam in speeches and interviews during recent years.

The Way TV, the L.A. Times reported that Steven Klein is an anti-Islam activist and Vietnam War veteran who acted as a consultant on the film. Klein also has a weekly show on Media for Christ’s satellite network.

According to Huffpost, the movie was posted to YouTube by a Sam Bacile, but later it was determined that Sam Bacile is an alias linking the video to Nakoula Bassely Nakoula. According to Associated Press, in 2010, Nakoula was charged with federal bank fraud charges, setting up fraudulent bank accounts using stolen identities and social security numbers. He was sentenced to 21 months prison, and was ordered to pay $790,000 in restitutions. He was also banned from using a computer and accessing the internet without the permission of his probation officer.

In a statement released to CNN the Cast and Crew of the “Innocence of Muslims” said:

“The entire cast and crew are extremely upset and feel taken advantage of by the producer. We are 100% not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. We are shocked by the drastic rewrites of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred.”
